Never Gonna Give You Up

I got brainwashed last Monday night. Last-song syndrome, that is. The grocery that the missus and I went to kept on playing “Never Gonna Give You Up” by Rick Astley over and over and over and over again. Even the CD itself wanted to stop as the song was scratching and jumping all over the place.

I remember a long time ago when Rick Astley was number one. My sister would go to our rich neighbor’s house to play while they listen to Rick Astley songs. That neighbor of ours even had a Rick Astley poster on her closet ---yup she was one of those. It’s just that the whole Rick Astley phenomenon came to a stop for me when I saw Roderick Paulate doing his own dance moves during the fame of Tonight With Dick and Carmi. In the words of Simon Cowell: "It was a complete and utter mess."

The missus wanted to buy a pair of slippers since she decided to retire her old pink pair which is circa 1990s, I think. After almost an eternity of “Never Gonna Give You Up” encores, she finally found the one she liked: a pair of slip on blue rubber sandals with the brand “asadi” marked on it ---I assume that it’s a pirated version of Adidas. Honestly, it reminded me of our weekend househelp who does the mountainous laundry back home for she wore the same footwear.

As we left the slippers section, the Rick Astley concert stopped. “Finally!” I said. I then heard a brief commercial break of the grocery’s latest promos then the DJ said:

“Here’s the 4th highest song in 1987! NEVER GONNA GIVE YOU UP BY RICK ASTLEY!!!”

NOOOOOooooooooooo!!!!

One...two...ready...sing! Never gonna give you up...Never gonna let you down...

(As we reached home and the missus tried on her new slippers, she felt uncomfortable with the inside folds hurting her feet. Needless to say that we shall be returning the pair of slippers next Monday for another quest to find the right pair ---with Rick Astley reverberating on the background.)

The need for speed

The 2006 F1 season is kicking-off soon, with Malaysia as its 2nd leg sometime mid-March. Here are some pics I took of the Ferrari F2003 GA.

I heard our company vendor is giving away VIP seats ---that's paddock view ladies and gents, right next to the pits! Hope one of those tickets falls on my lap.

These guys

Credit to this guy who's waiting for the hype to die down before he decides to claim his prize ($365M lang naman). Balato naman diyan kahit 0.1% lang!

I hope this guy is not the reason for all the fury on the cartoons.

This guy is my favorite in this season's American Idol. Truly an original. I'd buy his album win or lose.

He/She Loves Suspense

Well, we've gone to Baby-Tsina, the missus' ob-gyn, yesterday, in the hope that our baby's sex will be revealed. The baby, however, had other plans coz during the ultrasound, it positioned itself in the most difficult way to detect the sex.

Probably the baby has inherited the father's mischievousness, causing your guess to be put on hold 'til March-18. For whatever shaking Baby-Tsina did to the missus' stomach to make it move, it didn't budge, preferring to show itself butt-in-the-air instead.

So the score is 9-5 in favor of a Boy. Hmmm...not bad for a result since Baby-Tsina and I *might* have seen a shadowy-figure of a penis during the ultrasound but only for a brief millisecond. She said she's a perfectionist so we'll just have to wait for another month to confirm whether it really is an et-et ---or just a finger trying to scratch its ass.

Yes, this job's for real

I guess you've already seen job openings with such requirements as "Chinese-speaking" or "French-speaking."

But how about this?

Waiter, there is too much pepper on my paprikash

(Since I wasn't able to get copyright permission from the missus to blog the real-life love stories of her friends for my Feb-14 issue, you'll have to manage with this: a quote from one of my favorite romantic-comedies.)

"I love that you get cold when it's 71 degrees out. I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle above your nose when you're looking at me like I'm nuts. I love that after I spend the day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes. And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it's not because I'm lonely, and it's not because it's New Year's Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible."

---Harry Burns from the movie "When Harry Met Sally" (1989)

How To Dismantle The Grammys

I will definitely get a copy of their 5-Grammy-winning album one of these days.

Kudos U2!

Boy or Girl?

Our next visit to the missus' obgyn is on Feb-19th. There is a big possibility that we may be able to know by then if the baby's a boy or a girl.

So here's the thing: let me know what you think. Boy or girl? I've added a poll window on the right so just click on your guess.

Winner gets a chance to...well...watch TV until 2am. Hehe.

Brown Skin Girl

The baby was very active in the missus' belly yesterday, kicking at around 4pm in the afternoon. Since the baby is still about 6-7 inches in length, the kicks were so faint that it was only the missus who felt it. I admit that I'm envious everytime she says, "Ayun oh, naramdaman mo?" when in fact I'm trying hard to feel the said sensation ---to no avail.

So anyway I wanted to try out something ---observe what the baby's musical tastes are. I grabbed my mp3 player and probed the missus' belly with the L and R earphones.

The kicking was very frequent when "Brown Skin Girl" by BoBice/Santana was playing. Amazingly, it stopped when I fast-forwarded it to "Kailangan Ka" by Hale, and "PeaceMan" by Bamboo. I set the song back to "Brown Skin Girl" and whadayouknow, it was kicking again.

It's either this baby of ours has acquired the missus' inclination to Bo Bice's music or the baby is soothed by the songs that I like (alternative OPM rock). Whatever the reason, the baby has good musical tastes ---just like the parents.

Yup, we'll try Mozart and Bach next weekend.

Hello Palmville!

The missus has never experienced moving houses. She has lived all her life in their Spanish-style home in New Manila so our move to the new pad was quite an experience for her. Immediately after we told the agent that we're taking the unit, she was already thinking of what to move out first and then where to put what. She refers to it as "copy-pasting" our stuff to the new unit.

She has been wondering what the units in Palmville Resort Condo looks like. We had looked into several other condos prior to this but she didn't want to leave Sunway, or to be particular, Sunway Pyramid. She attests that it's her favorite mall ---anywhere in the world. If she had the chance to take anything back in Manila, she'd choose to shrink the said mall into her luggage. She finds it easy to walk around the mall and its Egyptian theme makes it more unique versus the other malls she's been.

After going thru 3 units shown by the agent, we chose a fully-furnished 3-bedroom unit on the 6th floor.

What we found lovely about this unit is that the balcony and bedrooms offer a great view of the surrounding areas, including a glimpse of the KL tower and half of the Petronas Towers. The missus has learned to appreciate the new view compared to the "still life" background of our former home as her a.m. and p.m. siestas are interrupted by the splendid view. Here's the master's bedroom (king-sized bed baby yeah).

I guess God agrees as we saw a rainbow welcoming us on the balcony-view during our first 24 hours here.

The unit comes with 2 parking slots so I guess the car-cleaning gods won't rain on the car when it's newly washed. There's a convenience store on the 2nd floor, free-copies of the morning-newspaper at the main lobby (yes, free).

The poolside offers a panoramic-view of the Sunway Lagoon Theme Park and Pyramid Mall.

On the open grounds there's a children's playground, an adult and kiddie swimming pool, a jacuzzi...

...YES my friends, merong jacuzzi. We even tested out the pumps if it was in working condition and it didn't disappoint. Mental note: make tampisaw in the jacuzzi with the missus one of these days.

Palmville Resort Condo really lives up to its name as it emanates a resort-like environment to its residents, most of which are expats like myself. I have to admit that I feel a sense of pride and accomplishment as I look around our new pad. I'd always let out a smirk as I often catch myself say, "Ang ganda naman ng bahay naten!"

The missus agrees. She could've never said it better: "this is where we belong!"
